Models of occupational health provision
There are a number of ways of providing occupational health services. A Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s survey in 2004 found that:

54% of employers contract with a external provider:
  • 18% use an in-house occupational health service;
  • 17 % employ an in-house occupational health professional; and
  • just over a quarter of organisations buy-in the services of an occupational health provider as and when necessary.

Note: some of these organisations use more than one form of provision.

Smaller organisations can find it difficult to provide occupational health services
It should be possible to estimate the level of service required
