Neighbourhood appraisals

The group had recently introduced neighbourhood appraisals, which were aimed at involving customers in evaluating their neighbourhood and making improvements to the environment and the services they received.

The aim was to appraise all neighbourhoods within two years, to enable the Group to develop a co-ordinated and proactive approach to neighbourhood management.

At the time of the inspection six appraisals had been completed and a further seven were underway. The appraisal included:

  • a community audit to establish local community services, resources and facilities;
  • a tenant and property profile, establishing key indicators about the stability of the neighbourhood, such as levels of rent arrears, benefit dependency and incidences of antisocial behaviour, so that key issues could be identified and 'baseline' information established against which future improvement could be made; and
  • a walk around the estate by the team, staff and tenants.
