Auditor General for Wales, Jeremy Colman, welcomed the seven-strong team, who had travelled to the Wales Audit Office in Cardiff from the Shenzhen region of China, which borders Hong Kong.

The group comprised Mr Zhigang Chen, Head of Audit Office, Mr Jian Ke, Section Chief of Audit Office and representatives from the China Development Institute and Shenzhen People’s Congress.

Staff from the Wales Audit Office talked them through the organisation's approach to local government audit and inspection, with its increasing emphasis on promoting improvement and spreading good practice. The visit was also an opportunity to exchange views on the comparability of Welsh and Chinese audit practice.

The Chinese delegation took away copies of some recent Wales Audit Office reports, including the Auditor General’s Code of Audit and Inspection Practice which they were considering translating into Cantonese.

Auditor General, Jeremy Colman, said: “This visit has been a great opportunity for auditors from both sides of the globe to compare the differing approaches to public sector audit and to learn from each other’s experiences. I hope the team from China found the trip as useful and as interesting as we did.”
