New local government assessments
The first round of our new Improvement Assessments in local government is well underway. It marks a move to more consistent and comprehensive reviews, along with reports that focus on the citizen.

Our corporate assessment work is currently being delivered in all 22 councils - looking at how likely they are to secure future improvement. Reports are due out in May and June.
Meanwhile, we are busily developing our approach for our first performance assessments - which looks at whether councils have actually improved. Our first Annual Improvement Report will be published in the autumn, drawing on the work of other regulators too. While year one will not present a complete picture of council improvement, it will illustrate where further information is needed and form a useful foundation for the first full assessment in 2011.
