Asset Management

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council

01/01/2008

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has set a two per cent energy-saving per year target over a three-year period for each service area and has carried out energy audits on all of its corporate buildings. This information, prepared in conjunction with other asset-management information, will be used to focus on the most energy-inefficient buildings.

The age of buildings, current and future use, demand and overall running costs are also taken into account when targeting buildings.

Energy audit information will be supplied to each nominated building manager. This includes information on energy consumption and costs, and comparison with the average expected age for a building of that type and size. Building managers can then assess such information to rank the building in terms of its energy efficiency and, if it is considered to be inefficient, consideration is given to improvement actions.

Building managers can obtain technical information, both from within Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and externally, on potential energy-saving measures. Applications for funding from Council funds can be made and are considered based upon each individual scheme's merits.

Regular reviews and audits are undertaken on prioritised buildings that are major energy users, in order to monitor and assess progress.
