In Spring 2005 variable speed drives were installed at Pembroke, Tenby and Milford Haven leisure centres, which reduced the energy used by pool water pumps.
Financed via Pembrokeshire County Council's Initiative fund, a saving of £3,207 and 30 tonnes of CO2 per year is anticipated giving a payback of just under four years. A further bid for similar installations at Narberth, Preseli and St. Davids leisure centres is being prepared.
