South Wales Police Authority is 'performing adequately' overall, according to a new report released today by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) and the Wales Audit Office. It is performing well in the areas of performance scrutiny and engaging with communities and is in a 'strong position to further improve'

Inspectors found that South Wales Police Authority had developed a more robust approach to its leadership over the past five years and there is now a more effective, constructive and challenging relationship with South Wales Police.

It recognises the resource and financial pressures facing the force and has approved Project Reform - a wide ranging and ambitous review of the way policing will be delivered in South Wales to ensure quality services are made available to the public with the resources available.
