Public Interest report into failures in governance and financial management at Clydach community council

Appointed Auditors' report covers Accounts from 2004-05 to 2009-10

08/12/2011

Mr Anthony Barrett, the Appointed Auditor, has today published a report in the public interest highlighting failures in governance arrangements, and inadequacies in Financial Management at Clydach Community Council.

The appointed auditor says the former clerk of the Council, Mr Robert King, failed to discharge his responsibilities in relation to the financial management of the Council and failed to maintain proper accounting records.

The report identifies that, due to the poor record keeping of the former clerk, it is unclear as to whether all the income due to the Council had been collected and banked. In addition the former clerk's administration of payments was inconsistent resulting in the council incurring additional penalties and charges from suppliers.
