Since 1 April 2008 a number of NHS trusts merged to form four new trusts:
- Pembrokeshire & Derwen, Ceredigion & Mid Wales and Carmarthenshire merged to form Hywel Dda NHS Trust;
- Pontypridd & Rhondda and North Glamorgan merged to form Cwm Taf NHS Trust;
- Swansea and Bro Morgannwg merged to form Abertawe and Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust; and
- on the 1 July 2008 North East Wales and Conwy and Denbighshire merged to form North Wales NHS Trust.
