Value for Money Work
Promoting value for money remains a major responsibility for the WAO. One of the WAO's greatest strengths is that it works at both local and national levels and across sectors, often looking at services from the perspective of the citizens who use and pay for them.

Value for money examinations and national studies

The WAO has developed a rolling programme of value-for-money (VFM) examinations and studies, closely involving those working in and using Assembly services, including health, and local government services. Studies focus on areas of significant risk to value for money, and where real improvements can be made. The WAO consults widely on its choice of studies, so that they address the issues that are most important to stakeholders, and so that any recommendations are realistic. Each study is carried out by a team that normally includes practitioners in the area under review or draws on other sources of expertise.

Examinations and studies usually result in published reports. As well as enabling accountability, these may inform policy and practice and may lead to the development of self-help tools.
