Performance indicators

Each year the 22 councils in Wales collect and publish details of how they have performed against a series of performance indicators (PIs) set by the National Assembly for Wales and supplemented by local indicators. Our auditors check the information before it is published and report on its accuracy and the systems used to produce it.

Once each council has published its own performance data, the data for all 22 authorities is consolidated by the Welsh Local Government Data Unit and published on its website.

The Performance Measurement Framework

Historical data up to 2004/2005 was collected and published against the National Assembly for Wales Performance Indicators (NAWPIs). Following a major review of performance measurement in local government, new indicators were introduced from 2005/2006.

Archived performance information

The NAWPI Viewer is a database containing local government PI data from 2001/2002 to 2004/2005. You can select the indicators and councils you are interested in and the NAWPI Viewer will produce data in tabular and graphical formats showing how councils have performed over time and relative to each other.

The NAWPI Viewer is available to the general public and can be accessed through the Local Government Data Unit website by clicking on this link.
