Matthew Edwards
A fluent Welsh speaker, Matthew is a Financial Audit Director with a wide-ranging portfolio of audits across the whole of Wales including local government, NHS and central government bodies.
He is a Chartered Public Finance Accountant with over 20 years public sector audit experience of financial audit and local value for money work. Matthew is also a former Employee Member of our Executive Leadership Team and chaired Audit Wales’ Financial Audit Development Group that led on the development of our audit approach. He also has a keen interest in our graduate trainee programme and developing the next generation of auditors and finance leaders.
Matthew is from North Wales and was educated through the medium of Welsh at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd in Wrexham. He gained a BSC (Joint Hons) degree in Geography and Political Science from Coventry University before joining Audit Wales and its predecessor organisation, the Audit Commission in 1997.
Matthew lives in Wrexham with his wife and two daughters. He is a season ticket holder at Wrexham AFC and is a keen road cyclist. His biggest achievement to date on two wheels involved circumnavigating Wales in five days for charity.
