Working with others
We are currently signed-up members of the Public Audit Forum, which brings together all of the UK’s public audit organisations, and the Welsh Health Concordat between bodies inspecting, regulating and auditing health and social care.
Joint working
Inspection Wales
In addition to our memberships, we also work closely with other inspectorate bodies - such as Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), the Care Inspectorate Wales and Estyn – to carry out joint reviews of health, social care and education services. Download the Operational Protocol [PDF 376KB opens in new window] between HIW and the Auditor General to learn more about our coordinated work programmes. You can also read Working together to provide assurance [PDF 202KB opens in new window].
In 2011 the four inspectorate bodies signed a Strategic Agreement [PDF 129KB opens in new window] outlining our commitments to collaborative working as part of the Inspection Wales programme. Read the Inspection Wales blog [Opens in new window] to find out more about the programme.
Joint review of governance arrangements
We're currently working with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) on a joint review of quality governance arrangements at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
The urgency of this planned work was heightened following the publication of a highly critical report on maternity services by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Royal College of Midwives in April 2019.
The review will look at how Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s overall governance arrangements support delivery of high quality, safe and effective services. It will include a specific focus on arrangements within the surgical department.
We will be completing fieldwork within the health board in July and August 2019, and a joint report will be published in autumn 2019.

Future Generations Commissioner for Wales
The Auditor General for Wales and Future Generations Commissioner for Wales have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which sets out how they will cooperate on their related responsibilities under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
We, in partnership with the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, are now developing a coordinated work programme to deliver the intentions set out in the Memorandum of Understanding [PDF 750KB opens in new window].
Outside of Wales
Our joint working also extends beyond Wales. We work with colleagues at the National Audit Office, Audit Scotland, Northern Ireland Audit Office and the Care Quality Commission on joint projects - or to share knowledge and good practice.
Such joint work includes an extensive bi-annual data matching exercise to identify potential fraud and corruption. Our work with the National Audit Office also includes the publication of high profile joint reports.
Working abroad
From time to time, the Auditor General and our staff undertake work with, or on behalf of, overseas public sector organisations.
Our overseas work has included a review of governance for the States' Public Accounts Committee in Guernsey, supporting the development of the Human Resources function and value for money audit in the Government Audit Service in Ghana. We have also done work in Luxembourg, Lithuania and the Cayman Islands.
