Rebalancing care

  • What we're doing

This report will summarise findings from our work which has examined whether the Welsh Government, with the support of Regional Partnership Boards, has adequately addressed the Auditor General’s 2019 recommendations on the Integrated Care Fund through the rollout of its Regional Integration Fund.

    Why we're doing it

Our previous report described the positive impact of the Integrated Care Fund in supporting improved partnership working and better integrated health and social care. However, it found that aspects of the way that the fund was managed at national, regional and project levels had limited its potential. Since that work, the Welsh Government has replaced the Integrated Care Fund with the Regional Integration Fund (RIF). This is a five-year fund running to March 2027, with an annual budget of around £146 million. Given the significant amount of money involved, it is important that the Welsh Government has learnt from the findings of our previous work to ensure the money is spent wisely, appropriate oversight and scrutiny is in place and that opportunities are being taken to share the learning from the projects involved.

    When we'll report

    Autumn 2025.
