What’s in it for you

You will take part in the audit of over 800 public bodies throughout Wales, ensuring that the work you do makes a real difference to the citizens of Wales. You will also learn how to establish and maintain good working relationships internally and externally, while studying for your accountancy qualification and being supported in a full learning and development programme.

Every element of an audit contributes to the big picture and your day-to-day work on our graduate program plays a key role in that.

Your career as an auditor starts as soon as you join us. Alongside the professional qualification training, you will join audit teams and gain practical experience with our clients, working with them either from their offices or online, either from home or from one of n offices. You will need to be a resourceful and resilient person.

You will carry out a variety of financial accounting work to verify that data is correct and highlight and question any inaccuracies through regular contact with Finance teams and other professionals.

Our training program gives you the opportunity to work across a wide range of clients, including:

  • Welsh Government and related sponsored bodies
  • Health boards
  • Local authorities
  • Fire and Rescue Service

You will also be involved in grant certification work, data analytics, governance and value for money work.

Although our client base is across Wales, our staff are based in geographical areas (South, North and West); and are expected to travel to various client offices throughout this geographic area. It's worth noting that due to this geographical spread, it may be beneficial for you to be able to drive, making travel between clients more accessible. However, if you are unable to drive or unable to drive due to an impairment, you will be reimbursed for alternative travel arrangements.

As a place to work - we are a little different.  We genuinely care about our people, offering a welcoming culture and an environment that encourages a positive work life balance.

Plus, you’ll also enjoy some impressive benefits and have access to the support, guidance and training to achieve all your short-term and long-term career goals.

You’ll be part of a supportive team and together you will create a safe space where everyone is able to challenge themselves and develop both personally and professionally. Our teams take pride in their work and know that team collaboration creates a culture where everyone wants to do their best to help everyone else succeed.

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to make an impact in audit and with the opportunity of an external secondment and a diverse work programme across audit services, you’ll experience a wide range of work opportunities providing you with the support, encouragement and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.

Joining Audit Wales means joining an organisation who is just as enthusiastic about your development as you are. You’ll start your professional qualification shortly after joining and within the first few months you’ll take your first set of exams. You won’t go through this alone, you’ll study with the rest of your cohort, building strong relationships and networks along the way.

Studying can be tough, but we'll be right behind you with full financial support; we cover all costs of ICAEW student membership, tuition, exam costs and study materials; and access to first-class tuition.

Our exam pass is above the national average for ICAEW, and we’ve had a number of international prize winners!

We encourage you to take full advantage of the resources available to you, attending all classes and completing all course tests and mocks. These opportunities will help you build the skills and knowledge you need to pass your exams on your first attempt.

You will also have a buddy to help you settle into your role and will have a line manager who acts as your ICAEW student counsellor, providing you with the support and guidance you need to develop both personally and professionally.

A professional qualification opens up a world of possibilities and ICAEW is prestigious and as such the exams are demanding and personal commitment and discipline are needed. But if you are prepared to invest in your development with lots of hard work, often in the evenings and weekends to supplement the tuition you receive from our training provider, your dedication will bring huge long term rewards. This really can be the best thing you invest in!

Our Graduate Trainee Programme offers those wanting to train as a chartered accountant something different; with a unique opportunity to complete a secondment at either another public sector or a publicly funded organisation.

This unique opportunity, which provides you with not only the chance to experience another organisation’s culture, but also to develop finance skills alongside your auditing skills.

Our aim is to support your development as finance leaders of the future and as such, we believe that the development of your leadership and managements skills are as important as the development of your technical skills.

Your ICAEW professional training programme is therefore supplemented with a programme of learning covering skills including leadership, critical thinking and emotional intelligence, resulting in an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) level 3 award.
