Recruitment and Retention Challenges

  • A women attending a job interview
  • What we're doing

A thematic review at each of the 22 principal councils looking at their arrangements to address recruitment and retention challenges. This review will result in a local report for each council followed by a national report following the conclusion of local work.

    Why we're doing it

Recruiting and retaining an appropriate workforce is key to securing value for money. We want to provide assurance that councils have arrangements to secure value for money and are acting in accordance with the sustainable development principle. As well as explaining how councils are addressing these challenges, we will seek to inspire public sector bodies to improve by sharing examples of notable practice where relevant.

    When we'll report

    Autumn 2026
